Holy Smokes BBQ and Whole Hog House
Holy Smokes BBQ & Whole Hog House is located in what was a Lutheran Church in West Hatfield, MA, which was deconsecrated before we purchased it. The building was built in 1889 & was moved to this site in 1948. The windows are all original. We purchased the building in December, 2003 & we opened our red BBQ doors in April 2004.
The air-conditioned dining room holds 48 people. You will sit in the original pews (with cushions) from the church while dining. Just like in church, you never know who you will meet. If you are lucky, you may see PapaLu & Leslie dance to their song, At Last, by Etta James.
We use fresh & local ingredients in our dishes whenever possible and have a homemade approach to our menu. Like many of the good southern BBQ restaurants, we smoke our meats daily. Our pulled pork and pulled beef takes 11 hours, the beef ribs take at least 8 hours, the pork ribs are 4-5 hours and the chickens are 1.5 to 2.5 hours. So if the meat is not quite ready or we run out of your favorite, please understand, it may be others favorites as well, and be confident that you are getting something fresh. You can't rush a tender rack of ribs!
The building is wheelchair accessible with a lift next to our stairs, wide aisles between our tables and nice large bathrooms. We pride ourselves on excellent service, a family friendly & relaxed atmosphere. So enjoy the music & make new friends! "It is worth the wait!"...
