About

I put this site together for a couple of reasons. First, I wanted to learn the Drupal Content management platform and I needed a project. Second, I love barbecue and thought it would be fun to try and put together a comprehensive directory, complete with a Google Map, of authentic BBQ restaurants in the United States. And when I say authentic BBQ I'm talking about restaurants that use wood or charcoal to slow-cook their meat at a low temperature.

I have done my best to only include restaurants that I feel fall into this category and I have also tried to make sure that the restaurant is still in business. If you feel that any of the restaurants in this directory don't meet the criteria state above, please feel free to contact me and let me know.

This site is a work in progress and I hope to port some version of it to mobile devices in the near future. In the mean time, I will continue to add sites and I hope that you will help me do the same.

The focal point of this site is our map of Barbecue Locations, a Google map of barbecue joints throughout the United States. At this point you are saying to yourself, what's so great about that? I can already search for barbecue in Edison, NJ. The problem is that many times, the results you get back aren't what you are looking for. This site aims to address this issue. We got the ball rolling by adding over 650 sites throughout the U.S. but we need your help. By suggesting new BBQ joints for the directory, and reviewing and rating existing entries, BBQAtlas will become the place to go for anyone looking for the best place to grab some barbecue.

All of the content is available to the general public but we encourage you to join the community so that you can contribute to the site. We plan to add a bunch of new features such as a personal library for keeping track of your favorite sites, send an address to a phone, an online store, and much more. Come back often and enjoy!
